To administer, develop, maintain and oversee curricula, program elements, academic schedule, lab assistance, and Adjuncts for MCC Science offerings and programs. This position shall report to the Department Chair at Manchester Community College.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• In close partnership with Department Chair, coordinates program operations including development of course/section schedule each Semester, including Summer;
• Curriculum oversight including development of instructional materials that integrate theory with applications, clearly outline course goals and requirements, update/enhance/revise course content as needed;
• Remain technologically and pedagogically current within the specialized field of
instruction, especially with learning management software and platforms; utilizes and promotes appropriate instructional and administrative technologies to Faculty; pursues online and hybrid course development as needed;
• Promoting peer-to-peer Faculty sharing specific to teaching and learning in Science;
• Student service including academic advising, participation in college sponsored
recruitment and retention activities such as Open Houses and Student Orientations; contributes to college-wide advising across Liberal Arts & Sciences;
• Assists Department Chair with Adjunct faculty recruitment, orientation, and assignment of teaching accountabilities; assesses teaching performance and makes recommendations;
• As needed, writes annual reports, self-study and program review summaries and contributes to college accreditation;
• Observes all academic policies and procedures and institutional rules and regulations;
• Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior;
• Serves on college or system committees, as assigned;
• Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations;
• Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major study in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics or a related Life Science. Each additional year of approval formal education may be substituted for one year of required work
experience.
Experience: Four (4) years' professional or paraprofessional experience in a field or occupation relevant to Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics or a related Life Science, with responsibility for program implementation, direct service delivery, planning or program evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree preferred.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license or access to transportation.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the programs to which assigned, and of federal and community resources and organizations. Working knowledge of research and planning methods and planning techniques. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to write technical information. Ability to understand and interpret the functional interrelationship of policy, regulations and procedures and to evaluate the impact on programs,
service delivery, clients and staff. Ability to detect and define problem areas and causes and to create and develop effective solutions, including the exercise of sound judgment in evaluating situations, planning action, making decisions and setting priorities. Ability to work independently to develop new or alternative approaches to meet changing and variable conditions. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
