ALS Paramedic Afghanistan

Location:  Afghanistan/Various.
Employment Type:  Full Time.
Period of Engagement:  likely to be more than 6 months.

Duties:
To provide primary care in a clinical setting under the direction of a Licensed Provider, Physician/PA/NP, using Approved Clinical Guidelines for the basis of treatment for contracted workers in deployed or remote
settings.

Secondary duties to include emergency response both on and offsite as the need dictates, responses may include but not limited to hostile actions, medical emergencies, traumatic emergencies and motor vehicle incidents. These situations may be life threatening.

Upon arrival at the scene, make an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and select from a variety of prescribed protocols, as appropriate; proceed to provide the treatment as prescribed in the protocol. Conduct a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of their condition and search for medical alert symbols. Determine, with due regard to the patient's condition, if and how they can be moved and to which medical facility they should be transported. Prioritize treatments for patient having multiple problems and employ a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods, and equipment while en-route to the appropriate medical facility.

The work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients. Generally, the work requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching and positioning of patients, frequently under adverse conditions, or in confined surroundings.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
•Certification Requirement: To begin employment, this position requires a Paramedic license in a state, territory or D.C. in which emergency responses are required OR certification through the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). To maintain employment, must be able to obtain both state AND national license within one year of start date.
•Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which involves providing advanced emergency medicine techniques to determine, based on the diagnosis of the patient, the approach or combination of approaches, that will most effectively sustaining the patient's life. Candidates must demonstrate experience performing patient examinations, operating emergency and patient transport vehicles, and recognizing proper diagnostic signs such as pulse, respiration, blood pressure, temperature, skin color, etc.
•Education Substitution for Specialized Experience: Have at least one full year of graduate-level education from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
•Personnel criminal investigation required from country of residence.
•A medical examination is required prior to beginning employment
•Immunization screening is required.
•This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
•Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
•College or university transcript must be submitted.
•Diplomas and certifications and any other documents must be provided for credentialing for health care positions.
•All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training. Paramedics must also maintain ACLS, and BLS instructor Certification within the 1st year of employment.
•Direct Deposit of Pay is required to a banking facility with an international Swift Code.
•3 month trial/probationary period may be required.
•This position requires heavy lifting in excess of 45 lbs.
•This position is a mission essential position. May be required to report and/or remain on duty in the event of a crisis, disaster, medical crisis or extreme weather conditions.
