Required qualifications for the position:
- Degree qualifications:
- For Assistant Professor (tenure track): Earned doctorate in Science Education, Chemistry, Geology or Physics and 18 graduate hours in Chemistry, Geology, or Physics (ABD candidates will be considered).
- OR
- For Lecturer (non-tenure track): Earned a Masters degree in Chemistry, Geology, Physics, or Science Education with at least 18 graduate-level hours in Chemistry, Geology, or Physics.
- For Assistant Professor (tenure track): Earned doctorate in Science Education, Chemistry, Geology or Physics and 18 graduate hours in Chemistry, Geology, or Physics (ABD candidates will be considered).
- Minimum of 3 years teaching at the K-12 level.
- Ability to supervise pre-service teachers internship.
- Ability to teach college level courses.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Desirable qualifications for the position:
- Doctorate degree in Science Education, Physics, Geology, or Chemistry.
- The ability and desire to teach physical science courses.
- Public school experience at the middle grades level.
- Knowledge of current trends and issues in the field of education at the national, state and local levels.
- Knowledge of State of Georgia K12 accreditation standards and procedures.
- Ability and desire to perform research with undergraduate students in area of expertise.
- Successful college teaching experience.
- Experience in and ability to provide leadership in using technology in teaching.
- Experience with diverse student populations.
- Teach physical science courses for middle grades science education students.
- Teach physics, chemistry or geology classes for science majors and/or non-science majors.
- Supervision of middle grades science education students.
- Engage in scholarly activity leading to presentation and publication (required for tenure track).
- Develop proposals to support projects in undergraduate research and/or science education or have the ability to perform collaborative research at other institutions (required for tenure track).
- Participate in service to Department, School, University and community.
- Serve as an advisor for students in the department of natural sciences.
