Metro Area) To Apply: http://careers.peopleclick.com/careerscp/client_farmersgroup/external/registration.do Job DescriptionRepresents Farmers efforts in following and influencing proposed legislation; develops positions on proposed legislation in consultation with impact business units; lobbies United States Congress and federal regulatory bodies as needed; distributes summaries of enacted legislation; and assists the Head of Federal Affairs as needed in relations with Congress. Engages with trade associations, and other external coalitions. Position Requirements • Direct lobbying of Congress and staff, and federal regulatory bodies to protect Farmers interests • Develop materials in support of lobbying Congress to protect Farmers interests, including writing position letters on legislation and regulatory policy, and writing testimony before legislative committees. • Works with Farmers management to develop coordinated policy positions. • Regularly consults with/advises Senior Leadership in the Personal Lines, Commercial and Claims lines of business. • Prepares legislative proposals and amendments to bills in coordination with Government and Industry Affairs Regulatory and Public Policy departments, and appropriate business units. • Helps develops strategy to grow Farmers political action efforts through both PACs and grassroots networks. • Implements Farmers political strategy, including political contributions, to build the enterprise’s position as a business community leader in Washington DC. • Develops pro-active legislative agenda with Government and Industry Affairs Regulatory and Public Policy departments, and determines strategy for moving these bills through Congress. • Draft or update position papers on significant issues for use by Government and Industry Affairs Regulatory and Public Policy departments, where appropriate. • Participates in, and seeks leadership opportunities in industry lobbying organizations, trade associations andexternal boards. • Assists in preparation of final reports on federally enacted legislation. • Performs other specific assignments in public and governmental affairs as may be assigned by the Head of Federal Affairs Preferred Skills and Abilities Not Indicated Physical Actions Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 10 lbs. ma ximum. Physical Environment Required duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but may require travel to out-of state locations. Education Requirements Four year college degree and attainment of, or actively pursuing, professional designations. Experience Requirements Eight years with FIG with increasing responsibility or eight years of related experience.
