The Department of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Physics with a preferred start date of Jan. 1, 2014. Georgia College is the State of Georgia's Public Liberal Arts University and is dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education. We seek candidates who will play a significant role in developing our new undergraduate physics program and pursue physics or astronomy research in which undergraduates participate. Diversifying our curriculum geographically, temporally, and thematically is a high priority, so evidence of comparative and cross-cultural scholarship is particularly welcome. Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable. In keeping with the University’s mission we especially encourage applicants who will further our goal of cultural, ethnic, racial, and gender diversity. Initial duties for the position include teaching physics courses, and (if qualified) introductory astronomy courses and the improvement and coordination of the planetarium. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy. Physics or astronomy teaching experience at the college level is preferred. All applications must be submitted electronically to the website: https://www.gcsujobs.com/. Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of current and future research interests, unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts and contact information for three references. Direct all inquiries to: Hauke Busch, Search Chair, Department of Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy, Georgia College & State University, CBX 82, Milledgeville, GA 31061. Email: hauke.busch@gcsu.edu. Review of candidates will begin on Sept. 1, 2013 and continue until the position is filled.
