Position Summary
Seattle University has an exciting, dynamic opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to join our community.
This position manages the laboratories and provides some lab instruction for the Physics Department.
Essential Job Functions
The Lab Manager will be responsible for setting up and putting away laboratory equipment; organizing, setting up, and developing demonstration equipment; and either repairing equipment or arranging for it to be repaired.
The labs include introductory non-calculus and calculus-based physics, introductory astronomy, intermediate and upper-division physics, and faculty research labs.
The Lab Manager will be expected to prepare instructional materials and to provide laboratory instruction in introductory labs on a regular basis, as well as to supervise and train undergraduate teaching assistants.
This position is responsible for dealing with any departmental issues of laboratory safety or hazardous materials. The manager also provides IT support for the department’s lab computers and data acquisition interfaces.
Marginal Job Functions
Support for the telescope facility, occasional evening observing sessions, and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in physics or a related field and two years experience in laboratory management or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Proficiency with various computer platforms, including both Macintosh and PC, is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or PhD in physics or a related field is strongly preferred. Experience with electronics, vacuum technology, and machining; familiarity with computational physics, familiarity with telescopes, and experience working in an academic physics environment.
Compensation Salary will be discussed during the interview process and is commensurate with qualifications.
