Police Advisor

Job Description
 Work location will be full time and on-site in the following countries or areas to include Afghanistan, Haiti, Iraq, Kosovo, Lebanon, Liberia, Sudan, or the West Bank. Police Advisor position involves police initiatives overseas and will likely feature both long and short term commitments. Police Advisors are responsible for several Level I Police and have responsibility for a specific project. They shall direct and
coordinate the activities of members of the U.S. contingent and/or providing expertise in specialized law enforcement functions. They are assigned to mentor or train at an advanced or specialized level, and require additional expertise and/or additional certifications/licenses in their area of expertise. They also keep all subordinates informed of changes in regulations and policies, implications of new or amended laws and new techniques in police work; Investigate charges of inefficiency or neglect of duty against contingent members and file report or charges based on the findings. The critical areas of expertise include border control/patrol, crimes against persons, property crimes investigations, court security, intelligence, customs, crime scene investigation, dignitary protection, civil disorder, organized crime and anti-corruption. Specialists may serve as trainers, mentors or senior advisors depending on the needs of the mission and the expertise of the individual candidate.

Required ExperienceMinimal Requirements for all Police Mentor/Trainer (Level I to Level V):1. All advisors shall have a combined total of eight (8) years work experience with at least five (5) years experience in their relevant field (i.e. for police advisors federal, state, municipal, and county law enforcement service; for corrections advisors correctional service; for justice advisors as an attorney, judge, or justice sector professional; for specialist advisors, professional experience directly related to their advisor skill set). Police Advisor specialists must demonstrate at least three years (3) specialized experience in areas directly related to their mission responsibility, including any and all appropriate certifications and licenses.

2. This contract will involve training overseas. A passport is needed.

3. Credentials and educational documents will be required; dependent on position, will be required

4. Task orders will have quick turns: staffing commitments are necessary

5. This contract will involve both long and short term training/consulting initiatives

6. There are five tiers of police advisor, depending on skill sets and other relevant qualifications.

7. Advisors must be employed in the respective lines of work for which they are being considered (i.e. police officer, prosecutor, etc.), or be recently retired/separated within the last five (5) years.

8. Ability to communicate in English (Foreign Service Institute standard level 4 for writing, reading comprehension, and speaking)

9. Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to operate a standard transmission vehicle

10. Excellent health and be able to pass requisite physical, medical and psychological tests appropriate to assigned mission/country

11. Valid U.S. passport (for non U.S. citizens, valid passport from their country of citizenship)

12. Negotiating, interpersonal and leadership skills

13. The ability and willingness to train other individuals in their area of expertise

14. Must pass a nine-panel drug test for THC, Cocaine, PCP (Phencyclidine), Opiates, Methamphetamine, Methadone, Amphetamine, Barbiturates, and Benzodiazepines.

**Security clearance required:
Required to complete a public trust security packet that will be submitted to the Department of State (DOS). DOS approval is required before you can be hired.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice/law enforcement or related field; preferred an advanced degree; or law enforcement command training through FBI, PERF, SPI, Northwestern, etc.

Physical Requirements
Stand for long periods of time
Fly on airplane for extended period of time

Foreign Language :Requires English.
In most instances, you will not be required to speak a foreign language a translator will be provided. However, it is possible that DOS may desire or require proficiency in a foreign language for employment for some positions.
