In coordination with the Executive Director, Government Affairs, this position will be responsible for implementing the company’s government affairs, political reporting, and alliance development strategy. The candidate will be an integral part of a team that is responsible for ensuring a cohesive, effective Government Affairs strategy. The position reports to the Executive Director of Government Affairs within the Legal Department. RESPONSIBILITIES• Manage compliance of federal and state laws for lobbyist registration, reporting and political contributions. • Assist with management of government affairs workgroup activities, meetings, presentations. • Provide consistent and constant legislative monitoring to qualify and quantify the affects of various government initiatives on BioMarin’s business prospects. • Inform Executive Director of threats and opportunities with respect to political or policy changes and provide strategy guidance to address, including working through coalitions as warranted and directed • Integrate public affairs objectives with the state/regional public policy strategy and identify additional public affairs opportunities. • Assist Executive Director of Government Affairs with other duties as assigned, including but not limited to management of association participation, advocacy organizations, and representation at key events. • Collaborate with several other functional areas, including Regulatory, Commercial, and Clinical Operations to lead the company’s regional efforts and advance company goals and objectives. • Travel as necessary • Manage and adhere to corporate policies and practices Specific Responsibilities Include: • Utilizing monitoring systems to maintain up to the moment knowledge of current political and government issues/initiatives affecting BioMarin’s business and stakeholder groups. • Scheduling and management of government affairs meeting and activities. • Assist in the preparation of monthly government affairs reports and legislative reports • Attend government affairs functions as requested by the Executive Director • Compile lobbying and political contribution information to be submitted to appropriate reporting entities. EXPERIENCEQualified candidates should have a Bachelor Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, science or other pertinent Liberal Arts Degree. Minimum of 2 years experience in political, government, and/or related healthcare business environments in positions of increasing responsibility. Congressional work experience is a plus. Technical/business knowledge, negotiation skills, and excellent written and persuasive verbal communication skills are important in this role.
