Librarian - Gateway Community College (CCP-18, 12-month, tenure track position). ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: Fall 2012. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science (MLS or MLIS) together with one to four years of related experience including up to two years of experience in leading or supervising others; instructing and training students; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Four years experience in academic libraries; Demonstrated abilities in teaching and assessment of learning objectives; Commitment to ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards; Background in smart classroom/multimedia design and web based instruction; Best practices in information literacy at class, course, and program levels; Information technology skills including mastery of Microsoft Office and instructional design software; Familiarity with library integrated systems, specifically Ex-Libris Voyager; knowledge of website design techniques; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities; Strong commitment to public service and experience in working with a diverse clientele; Familiarity with scholarly research databases; and awareness of the information needs and information-seeking habits of college students. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Librarian works under the direction of the Director of Library Services. The Librarian will provide innovative leadership in the design, development, delivery and assessment of information literacy instruction across the curriculum using a variety of tools, techniques and instructional materials and will maintain statistics on these activities. The successful candidate will plan, develop and implement informational workshops and form close collaborative ties with faculty including the use of Blackboard Learn. Related duties will include complex reference service, collection development and maintenance, training and mentoring of part time staff members, supervision of student workers, and assistance with all combined service desk functions. Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. All of these duties may involve attendance at evening or weekend events. STARTING SALARY: $57,739 approximate annual, plus excellent State supported fringe benefits.
