Sr Optical Materials Engineer (optical materials | optical | Metrology | Laser) (#108273)

Job Title: Sr Optical Design Engineer
Location: Milpitas, CA
Duration: Fulltime

Job Description:

About the company:
KLA-Tencor is an industry leading supplier of wafer inspection and metrology systems. This position is with the Surfscan Division Optical development engineering group, which facilitates the specification, design, and integration of new products.

The Surfscan Division specializes in developing unpatterned wafer surface inspection tool that provides the sensitivity and throughput required for qualification of current and next-generation substrates, as well as qualification and monitoring of process tools.

Responsibilities:
1.Successful applicant must demonstrate real-world experience as an optical materials and optical processes expert.  All candidates will be required to present a summary of their educational and work experience backgrounds to an audience of highly technical subject-matter-experts at time of interview.

2.Job skills include thorough working knowledge of laser induced damage mechanisms including fused silica compaction phenomenology, Gaussian beam propagation theory including impacts from photo deposition on M2 and laser beam quality,  stress induced birefringence theory and other physical artifacts produced by laser compaction, as well as fundamental optical scattering effects arising from both bulk and surface quality defects.

3.Ability to construct complex systems error models and budgets having all critical optical parameters necessary to account for changes in beam shape and size, focal depth, polarization, and transmission due to laser induced damage and UV photo deposition.

4.In addition to illumination system modeling, ability to design and/or implement highly sophisticated optical test benches and metrology tools is highly desirable.

5.Candidate needs to work as a team player, to regularly communicate progress achieved, to complete project milestones on time, and to conduct Best Practice audits of precision optics suppliers effectively.

Education and Experience:
In addition to basic requirements, candidate should be sequential ray tracing (CodeV, Zemax) expert user, non-sequential ray tracing (Light-tools, Zemax) intermediate user, and thin-film modeling software (Macleod, TFCalc) intermediate user.

Candidate should have worked with either Matlab or some other data simulation and image processing algorithm development software package.   Use of industry standard interferometry or generic metrology-tool post-processing software is also highly desirable.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 7 years of experience.
OR
Master's Level Degree with at least 6 years of experience.
OR
Doctorate (Academic) with at least 5 years of experience.
