We are currently seeking a Government Relations Manager for our Tallahassee, FL location. The Government Relations Manager will analyze and understand relevant state and federal public policy issues, identify and anticipate legislative and regulatory policy developments and their impacts on the company, and effectively advocate before a myriad of internal and external audiences in furtherance of Mosaic’s interests. Reporting to the Manager, Public Policy and Government Affairs, this person will participate in the day-to-day execution of Mosaic’s Florida legislative session strategy, while also devoting time to analyzing and understanding the emerging issues on the federal level to effectively position the company in the public policy debate. Additional responsibilities will include participation in the development and implementation of effective strategies to build relationships with relevant government officials, staff, policymakers and opinion leaders as well as strategically utilizing new and existing government contacts and relationships to foster a favorable environment and work with cross-functional teams throughout Mosaic’s enterprise to help position the company to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate potential threats. What will you do? • Public Policy – Participate in the execution of the public policy and government relations efforts for Mosaic’s phosphates business through proactive issue identification and analysis at the state and federal level. Work with state and federal stakeholders, including representatives from industry, manufacturing, agriculture, energy, large land owners and the business community, to further Mosaic’s interests. Develop and maintain strong relationships with government to effectively manage and enhance Mosaic’s reputation. Continuously learn and understand Mosaic’s business in order to spot issues and function independently. Work closely with key internal and external stakeholders in furtherance of the company’s legislative, regulatory and public affairs initiatives. • Political Strategy – Participate in the organization and implementation of effective state and federal political and contribution strategies. Develop and maintain strong relationships with elected officials at all levels. Plan and execute successful company and industry political events to favorably position the company. • Public Affairs – Actively participate and interact with Public Affairs staff to further department and company goals. Serve as liaison to other areas within the company to help influence operations and approaches to position the company for anticipated public policy changes. • Other project and miscellaneous job duties as assigned. Desired Skills & Experience What do you need for this role? • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred. Major in Law, Political Science, Business or related degree preferred. • 5+ years of extensive experience working with elected officials and government audiences at the local, state or federal level. • Progressive experience in public policy issue identification, development and advocacy. • Experience building coalitions in furtherance of policy and political objectives and proven track record of success. • Experience working with NGOs is a plus. • Pre-existing relationships with variety of relevant stakeholders preferred. • Ability to communicate persuasively with government officials and staff, employees, potential external allies and opponents, and the public at all levels. • Must be able to establish and maintain internal and external levels of personal and substantive credibility. • Must be able to establish and maintain internal and external levels of personal and substantive credibility. • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
