As our Policy Advisor you will be responsible for managing activities directed at regulatory initiatives that impact the sale and distribution of petroleum products. You will have the opportunity to work on exciting public policy issues and operational objectives that serve the needs of our member companies such as ethanol blended gasoline; railroad transportation of crude oil; truck issues; model rules for retail gasoline industry, development of industry standards; UST rule development; and addressing Dodd-Frank implementation. You will be responsible for:• Managing client services, both internal and external, that advance the public policy and operational objectives established by multiple committees. • Responding to member company inquiries concerning API issues and activities in the Downstream area. • Developing and implementing plans on policy and operational objectives. • Representing API at meetings advocating assigned policies. • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with appropriate internal staff resources and external contacts including, but not limited to member company representatives, consultants, coalition/trade association partners and government agencies. • Managing consultant and research work done on behalf of the Member Companies and ensures that positions are reflected in API efforts at both the federal and state levels. • Developing and managing responses to regulatory and legislative initiatives affecting member companies’ ability to manage market risk, credit risk, compliance risk and operational risk. • Preparing written reports on salient issues; and assists with special projects as assigned. You should possess the following qualifications and experience:• College degree required; business or technical degree preferred. • Experience and understanding of retail fuel marketing issues and facilities and regulatory issues is ideal. • Strong knowledge of and/or experience with the federal/state legislative and regulatory process. • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and project management skills are essential. • Must have the ability to make effective and succinct presentations to management and the public. • Coalition and consensus building skills are essential. Must have ability to work in a team and goals oriented environment and to quickly understand complex issues • Budgetary experience is a plus. An understanding of anti-trust regulations is very helpful.
