The Company
Toyota Motor North America, Inc. (TMA) is the holding company for Toyota's U.S. sales and North American engineering and manufacturing companies. With primary offices in New York City, Torrance, CA and Washington, DC, the team at TMA oversees government and regulatory affairs, philanthropy, energy, environment, economic research, corporate communications and marketing.

The Position
The National Manager, Technology and Innovation Policy will be a member of the Government Affairs team. The individual will be responsible for developing and driving the policy interests of the company in the intersection between the company's business and technology policy. This is a new position located in Washington, DC. The position reports to Toyota's Group Vice President for Government Affairs.

This position will collaborate with a team of Government Affairs and Regulatory professionals located in the Washington, DC office in addition to subject matter experts residing in other Toyota North America affiliated companies. The focus of the position is federal, but the policy positions that the individual will help drive extend into the state level as well.

The person will be charged with building and maintaining close working relationships with a wide array of stakeholders, including elected officials, regulators, Toyota executives and technical experts, government agencies, business groups, consultants, think tanks and non-profit organizations.

Specific Responsibilities
•Identify and develop Toyota's positions and advocacy strategies on tech policy issues.
•Lead in the advancement of Toyota as a Thought Leader in the area of "Innovation and Mobility."
•Direct lobbying of the federal government, and policy support for certain state government issues, in the tech policy space.
•Build relationships for the company with key influencers based on integrity, expertise and constructive dialogue.
•Represent the company as part of various trade associations.
•Manage consultants and other external resources to advance the company's agenda.
•Communicate with clarity, consistency, and creativity.
Qualifications
•An undergraduate degree is required. In addition, a graduate degree in business, law, government or political science is advantageous.
•Ten-plus years of Washington-based public policy experience. (Preferred)
•Must have an established network of contacts and history of participation in the technology policy field.
•In-depth understanding of the legislative and regulatory process
•Established advocacy skills with the reputation and personal knowledge to gain access to key decision makers
•Reputation for working in a non-partisan manner. Senate experience is a plus.
•Excellent communication and teamwork skills
