American Conservative Union Communications Director About the American Conservative Union: Founded in 1964, the American Conservative Union is the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization. ACU is an advocacy organization, representing the views of Americans who are concerned with economic growth through lower taxes and reduced government spending and the issues of liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values and national security. Marquee programs include the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, DC, and the ACU Ratings of Congress. Description of Job Opening: The Communications Director is the American Conservative Union’s senior public relations staff member, responsible for developing and implementing a dynamic communications strategy that advances the organization’s brand, programs and conservative principles and priorities. The Communications Director works closely with other internal and external stakeholders and consultants to enhance the organization’s overall visibility and role in the conservative movement and national political conversation. He or she will be responsible for the planning, budgeting, staffing and implementation of the organization’s strategic communications plan and will have responsibility for overseeing, fostering and maintaining relationships with traditional and new media. Required Skills:• Demonstrated leadership experience in strategic communications, marketing, public and media relations. • At least 4 years of demonstrated on-the-record and intense media relations experience. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships with representatives of various sectors, including the media. • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and deal effectively with multiple time-sensitive priorities. • Experience in building and working with social media and social networks, as well as web content, design and web-based publications preferred. • Experience working in a political organization or campaign environment is preferred.
