CHESTER ZOO STUDENTSHIPS 2012
Chester Zoo Strategic Statement: To develop a substantial, expanding role in the conservation of global biodiversity and habitat enrichment; and to support this through sustainable commercial activities, including managing the zoo as a world class visitor attraction.
The Chester Zoo Studentships are awarded annually. They provide financial support for projects that benefit the conservation of biodiversity, provide a capacity building opportunity for student scientists and further the zoo’s partnerships with academic institutions. Several Chester Zoo Studentships are awarded each year, for up to a maximum value of £1000 per project.
Projects should relate to the in-situ conservation of biodiversity, and can be conducted overseas or in the UK. All applications should relate to studies that will be conducted before April 2013.
Student eligibility:
Applications are welcomed from projects which contribute to undergraduate or masters degree qualifications and for university endorsed expeditions (only one application per expedition will be accepted)
The studentships are open to students from both UK and international academic institutions
The award does not support PhD research projects, tuition fees, or costs that would normally be met by the university/college
Field work organised by a third party, non-academics and expeditions run by agents are also ineligible for studentship support.
Details required in the studentship application include the aims of the project, a statement of its relevance to conservation, methodology and a clear budget breakdown.
Clarity, feasibility and health and safety will be an important criterion when judging the submitted proposals. A short CV and all relevant risk assessments paperwork should also be attached with each application.
Chester Zoo expects those awarded studentships to uphold the high standards expected of its own employees, and to be fully acknowledged in any presentations or publications. It is a condition of the studentship that Chester Zoo receives a full written report of the research project within six months of completion and copies of any resultant publications. Chester Zoo may also request receipted expenses and reserves the right to request that any special equipment purchased through the studentship remain the property of the zoo once the project is completed.
