Senior Animal Keeper – Hoof Stock Section
Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, situated in the south of Kent near Ashford, is an
established wild animal park with significant success in the captive breeding of rare
and endangered animals. We have an opportunity for an experienced, hardworking
and dedicated keeper to work with a small team of enthusiastic and likeminded
keepers on our hoof stock section.
Our collection of hoof stock animals includes buffalo, tapir, zebra, various antelope
and deer, bison, and wildebeest.
This is a very physical role and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake
all duties on the section from food preparation and cleaning, to enclosure building and
maintenance. Conservation education plays a big role in the park so there will be
plenty of opportunities for doing talks and displays to the public.
You must have significant experience in animal keeping at a senior keeper level
gained in a zoo park or equivalent environment with experience working with
hoofstock animals. A full valid driving licence and experience in driving tractors and
Land Rovers is also required. We are looking for an individual who is hardworking,
passionate and committed with knowledge of current conservation issues and
experience in presenting talks to the public. You will also need a flexible approach to
working hours, the confidence to represent the company in the media, a hands on
approach to the restraint and handling of animals and the ability to run the section in
the absence of the section manager and deputy.
Although not essential for the role a firearm licence and experience gained in off road
driving would be advantageous. Ideally you will have obtained an animal
management qualification or equivalent but if not you must be willing to work
towards obtaining a relevant qualification.
Working 40 hours a week, 5 days out of seven, 8.00am to 5.00pm
