We are seeking candidates for the position of Director -Corporate & Government Affairs in Silver Spring, MD. POSITION SUMMARYWork with department senior vice president to develop and execute public-private partnerships with officials at various levels of government. Support network initiatives where government participation is sought. Provide government outreach on various policy issues, particularly federal legislative outreach. RESPONSIBILITES1. Establish/maintain/grow relationships with appropriate Administration (White House and department/agency) and Capitol Hill staff in order to effectively identify and act on mutually beneficial partnership opportunities. 2. Track major federal, state and local initiatives that parallel high-priority Discovery content/initiatives, research possible opportunities for joint action or partnerships, liaise internally and externally to determine feasibility of partnerships; implement resulting plans. 3. Coordinate with other members of team on partnership opportunities and policy issues as appropriate. 4. Support networks and other departments with government assistance/participation relating to production and/or local or state events as necessary. 5. Monitor/research/provide outreach – particularly regarding Capitol Hill -- with respect to policy issues affecting Discovery. 6. Other duties as assigned by SVP. Desired Skills & Experience REQUIREMENTS * Minimum of 10 years related experience, with increasing levels of responsibility, working with the federal government, particularly executive and legislative branches. * Experience in community outreach and branding initiatives. * Demonstrated ability to develop and implement short- and long-term strategies for fostering partnerships. * Demonstrated ability to cultivate and nurture relationships with government officials. * Strong verbal and written communications skills. * Must be an independent and strategic thinker who is a strong team player. * Must be flexible and willing to adapt to changing circumstances/job demands. * Must be able to garner respect and trust from peers and professional colleagues. * Media-industry background preferred. * Both government and private-sector experience preferred. * Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
