The Department of Physical Sciences at Ferris State University seeks a tenure-track faculty member to teach mainly introductory courses in physics and other courses as appropriate (such as astronomy or physical science); collaborate with faculty on ongoing course and program development; and maintain a program of ongoing professional development. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to non-major undergraduate education in physics, potential for teaching excellence, effective communication skills, and the interpersonal skills to work with a diverse array of students and colleagues. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance. Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus.
Required: Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or physics education by the time of appointment. Potential for undergraduate teaching excellence, effective communication skills, and the interpersonal skills to work with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
