The Environmental Science Department at Alaska Pacific University invites applications for a faculty position in Math and Physics at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level. Alaska Pacific University is a small private liberal arts and sciences university providing personalized, experiential, hands-on instruction in the field with Alaska as its primary classroom. The faculty at APU are passionate about teaching, involved in curriculum development and design, interested in interdepartmental collaborations, invested in student growth within the classroom and within the small campus community, and appreciative of creativity in scholarly pursuits.
Responsibilities of this position include teaching math (beginning algebra through calculus II) and physics (calculus-based and environmental), serving on university committees, collaborating with the department to develop and enhance current programs, and participating in undergraduate and masters student projects.
Requirements for the position include an earned doctorate (ABD candidates are also eligible to apply) in mathematics, physics or a closely related discipline, demonstrated commitment to undergraduate experiential education, and evidence of capacity to develop an independent program of scholarship. The ideal candidate will be able to teach both math and physics, but otherwise qualified candidates who can teach in one or the other discipline will also be considered.
