Our newest position to help keep us in front of laws and bills coming down the pike is the Director, Government Affairs. Reporting to an Associate General Counsel, the Director, Government Affairs will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic government affairs program for QVC, Inc. and its subsidiaries. This critical role is responsible for monitoring, evaluating and analyzing pending Federal, State and Local legislation relevant to QVC's business, surveying the legislation's impact on QVC and working with key company stakeholders to assist with the implementation of such legislation, developing QVC's response to new legislative initiatives and building relationships with Federal, State and Local authorities and key policymakers to enhance QVC's image among those authorities. The Director will also work with trade organizations of which QVC is a member to help educate and formulate the legislative priorities of those organizations. Finally, while not directly responsible for the governmental affairs programs of QVC’s international businesses, providing support for, and coordinating efforts among, such businesses. Specific duties include: • Foster strong relationships with key governmental officials to ensure that QVC’s “voice” is heard and successfully advocate QVC’s position to those key governmental officials. • Monitor, evaluate and track all federal, state and local legislation and other rules and laws relevant to the company’s operations. • Establish a corporate position and response to relevant legislation and other rules and laws. Educate key stakeholders of the company on the impact of proposed legislation including working with those key stakeholders on implementing such legislation. • Coordinate and communicate governmental affairs strategies among the internal corporate executives and stakeholders of the company including those executives and stakeholders of QVC’s international businesses. Working with trade organizations to which QVC is a member to help educate and formulate the legislative priorities of those organizations. Job Requirements: Required Qualifications• JD required. Bachelor's in Public Policy, Political Science or related field required. • 10 years of Government Affairs experience, thorough understanding of legislative processes, proven track record of successful advocacy and winning legislative battles, and current relationships with elected officials, agency ehads and policymakers. • Extensive knowledge of Federal, State and Local government processes and issues. Professional expertise in written and oral communications. • Strong strategic thinking to create policies positively impacting the business. Ability to understand and synthesize complex legal rules and laws • Self –starter, self-motivated with a strong work ethic. • Ability to work independently on a variety of tasks. • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage projects simultaneously. • Ability to work in a team environment. • Ability to meet with, seek cooperation and deal effectively with government offices and officials at local, state and national level. • Ability to interact with Senior Executives. • Polished interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with executives and senior government officials. Preferred Requirementso MBA preferred. Experience in, or knowledge of, Retail industry
