Position Title
Adjunct Faculty, Physical Science

Department
School of the Sciences: Math & Physical Science

Position Summary
Adjunct faculty in the School of the Sciences will engage in teaching activities in accordance with the University's Faculty Workload and Promotion/Sabbatical Guidelines. Teaching responsibilities will include no more than 14 contact hours per academic year for faculty in physical science.
 
Education/Experience
Master's degree or higher in physics, physical science or a related field plus college level teaching experience with a strong commitment to quality teaching or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Knowledge/Skills/Ability

  • Proficiency in physical science as appropriate to the courses to be taught
  • Familiarity with instructional techniques designed to reach students of varying preparation levels and abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with educational assessment practices


Physical Requirements
  • Science faculty work in science laboratories and will be exposed to chemicals, biologicals, chemical processes, magnetic field, and scientific equipment/instrumentation. All faculty in the Department of Mathematics & Physical Science work in classrooms and, if appropriate, computer laboratories as instructors, often standing during the instructional period.
  • All faculty in the School of the Sciences work with computers, monitors, copy machines, and other office equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 14 contact hours per academic year.
  • As part of Instructional Activity load:
    • Prepare courses and/or computer lab activities in accordance with published faculty workload guidelines and departmental requirements,
    • Prepare and distribute course syllabi according to university and departmental requirements,
    • Grade all assignments, quizzes, projects, and/or exams as described in the course syllabi,
    • Hold office hours (minimum of 3 hours per week),
    • Regularly check your Stevenson provided email account, at least once per weekday, and communicate with students,
    • Regularly check your Stevenson provided voicemail, at least once per weekday, and communicate with students,
    • Meet with students as related to instructional activity.
    • Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
    • Participate in the assessment activities of the Department, Division, and University.
