Job Description:
This is a full-time, 10-month instructional position that reports to the K-12 Principal of P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School. Responsibilities and expectations for a High School Physics & Engineering Instructor at P.K. Yonge are as follows:
•Direct teaching of assigned students
•Monitoring learning progress of all students in the assigned grade level
•Administering and analyzing formative assessments to monitor student progress and plan instructional shifts to increase achievement and success for all students
•Effective and innovative uses of technology to support teaching, learning, and collaboration
•Regular parent communication (electronically, face-to-face, and conferences)
•Active participation in teacher inquiry to support continuous program improvement
•Commitment to continuous professional learning and regular reflection on effectiveness of teaching practice and implemented curriculum for all students.
Minimum Requirements:
(1) a degree in science education (graduate degree preferred); (2) Florida High School Physics teaching certification; (3) 3+ years of high school science teaching experience (preferred); (4) engineering industry experience (preferred); (5) excellent oral and written communication skills; and (6) demonstrated commitment to diversity and effective strategies for motivating and teaching students with differing abilities from a variety of backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree, 3+ years of high school science teaching experience, engineering industry experience. The ideal candidate would have high school physics teaching experience as well as training and teaching experience in Project Lead the Way Gateway to Technology, Pathways to Engineering, and/or high school engineering curriculums. P.K. Yonge has a large and active FIRST Robotics Team that will need a new faculty sponsor. P.K. Yonge Instructors are expected to leverage technology to support student learning and facilitate collaboration and communication. As a faculty member of a developmental research school, PKY teachers partner with university researchers and PKY teaching colleagues to design and test innovations in response to contemporary educational challenges. As a teacher in a laboratory school, interested candidates should be comfortable with both scheduled and unscheduled observers and visitors. Candidates should also have an interest in teacher education.
