Executive Director
An exciting opportunity to play a lead role in conservation as Executive Director of the high profile Zoo and Aquarium Association Australasia.
The Zoo and Aquarium Association Australasia (ZAA) is committed to harnessing the collective resources of zoos and aquariums to conserve biodiversity in the natural environment. We are looking for a passionate Executive Director, who shares our vision, has the knowledge and expertise to provide strategic leadership and who will provide our industry with strong representation and advocacy.
The role is challenging and not for those looking to take a back seat. Reporting to the President of ZAA and the ZAA Board, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the Association. Specific responsibilities include:
- developing and implementing strategies for the regional zoo and aquarium industry;
- budget, financial and staff management;
- providing advocacy and advice on wildlife conservation and animal welfare; and
- effectively managing member, community and government relations.
To be successful in the role you will need to demonstrate a drive for outstanding results in managing the team in areas such as member services, the operation and development of regional species management programs and the ZAA member accreditation program. Knowledge of best practice in zoo and aquarium strategy and operations is needed to support the management of healthy and sustainable collections and to encourage accreditation and the certification of high standards of animal care.
The preferred candidate will have experience at a senior management level and be able to demonstrate their strong influencing, persuading, and relationship management skills. They will also have excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise workloads, and monitor and report on progress against strategies and plans.
