We are seeking a seasoned public relations and media professional to develop and execute communications strategies that raise awareness about NWF’s initiatives to get kids and families outdoors and increase engagement among key audiences, including parents, teachers, child-serving institutions, the media and lawmakers. Responsibilities:Manage media and public relations activities for NWF’s kids and nature initiatives including but not limited to: • Plan and manage external communication efforts, including but not limited to publicity for events, program launches, breaking news, etc. utilizing traditional, online and social media tools and tactics. • Develop, tailor and pitch story ideas that will appeal to print, television, radio and online media outlets. • Research, write and edit news releases, blog post, talking points and speeches, online feature stories and other press materials (op-eds, etc.) and website content. • Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts that reach targeted audiences. • Manage media projects, including press releases and advisories, events and announcements. • Contribute to online communications vehicles, including but not limited to NWF’s blog, Wildlife Promise, related blogs and social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. • Indentify and develop public relations opportunities and connections for NWF. • Experience:• Minimum of 5 years of public relations, marketing, journalism, advertising or other related field. • Experience managing public relations and/or non-profit advocacy communications experience. • Demonstrated track record of developing and implementing effective communication strategies that utilize all forms of communications. • Demonstrated success using social media. • Agency experience a plus! Desired Skills:• Wordpress, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Microsoft Publisher and HTML. Education: • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, journalism, advertising or other related field. The successful candidate is an innovative thinker who is no afraid to fail. Must have experience developing successful public relations campaigns that increase engagement with target audiences. (S)he must have exemplary writing and editing skills, and experience working with print, broadcast and online media. Strong verbal communications skills and ability to develop compelling messages and coach spokespeople in their delivery is essential. The candidate should have experience working with media database, distribution and tracking services, such as Vocus. Ability to handle a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously and independently is required. Attention to detail is critical.
