Job Title: Opto-Mechanical Engineer
Location: Milpitas, CA
Duration: Fulltime

Job description:
We are looking for a Opto/Mech Design Engineer who is able to complete projects in the areas of obsolescence resolution and quality/reliability improvement.  The person in this position will be responsible for:

1.Design opto/mech parts, modules and subsystems to support the design of whole systems.
2.Working with other engineering groups such as ME, EE, SW, systems and manufacturing engineers to ensure flawless integration and test at the subsystem and system level.
3.Development of the required supporting documentation and fixtures, such as assembly and test procedures, service manuals, and test fixtures.
4.Working closely with and managing suppliers to ensure all design requirements are specified and achieved.
5.Addressing and resolving product issues thru the product phases.
6.Having strong communication and problem solving skills.

Education and Experience:
The successful candidate will likely have:
1.Experience designing opto-mechanical modules and custom fixtures and tooling leading to successful introduction into manufacturing.
2.Expertise with MCAD and FEA software.
3.Fundamental optics knowledge: geometric optics, ray tracing, wavefront prorogation, polarization, fabrication tolerances, environmental effects.
4.Opto-Mechanical design principles: kinematic design, flexures, athermalization, environmental effects.
5.Materials selection and fabrication.
6.Tolerance analysis, GD&T, error budgeting, flow up and flow down of requirements.
7.Structural analysis: finite element analysis, stress in optics, creep and stress relaxation, modal analysis.
8.Thermal analysis: heat transfer, temperature gradients, thermal transients, thermo-elastic analysis.
9.Optical metrology equipment including lasers, interferometers, autocollimators.
10.Vendor management: component fabrication, manufacturing process transfer, qualification.
11.Operational and non-operational environmental and transportation testing including thermal, vibration, and shock.

Additional desirable skills & experience include:
1.Basic understanding of Design of Experiments
2.Experience with data acquisition & reduction using tools such as Excel, LabView, and Visual Basic.
3.Hands-On machine shop and precision measurement skills

Basic Qualification:
Doctorate (Academic)
OR
Master's Level Degree with at least 3 years of experience.
OR
Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 5 years of experience.
