We are challenging an industry where too often event producers, teams, ticket companies and venue owners are making business decisions without thinking about how their actions will impact fans. Backed by leading consumer and business organizations, the Fan Freedom Project promotes activism and supports legislation that promotes fans’ interests. Job Description The Media Manager will utilize digital media channels and traditional media relations to elevate the organization’s online and social media presence and advance the organization’s mission. Responsibilities will include: • Develop organizational messaging and concrete new and traditional media strategies that further the organization’s mission; • Manage online communications, including development and posting of all social media content • Develop and maintain relationships with journalists at targeted print, broadcast, and online media outlets by proactively pitching Fan Freedom Project’s stories and events; and organizing press briefings, editorial board meetings and other informational sessions with reporters. • Respond to incoming media inquiries. • Identify opportunities to respond to stories in the news with press releases, op-eds and letters to the editor. • Write and distribute press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor and fact sheets for the media and compile press packets. • Promote organizational blog posts to bloggers and online media. • Build media lists and maintain media database. • Track news coverage of Fan Freedom and organizational issues for board and donor reports. Qualifications • Infectious enthusiasm for FFP issues. • Four to six years’ experience working with traditional and new media in a non-profit communications department, a public relations agency, congressional office or related professional experience. • Experience working creatively with social media tools to achieve organizational goals. • Proven ability to secure national media for a specific goal. Experience working on advocacy campaigns or political campaign preferred. • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills. • Avid consumer of print, broadcast, online and social media. • Highly independent and motivated person with ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond rapidly to new events and issues. • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related subject.
